This is why Let Her Shine matters.

Let Her Shine is IWIN’s art-based empowerment program for first-generation immigrant high school girls, with a current focus on girls from Afghanistan in the East Bay and greater Bay Area.
 

Like many small nonprofits, IWIN is facing a difficult funding environment. When traditional funding falls short, we have a choice: step back from a program we believe in, or turn to our community.

We are choosing to turn to our community.
 

The impact of Let Her Shine starts with the girls and extends outward:
 

• THE INDIVIDUAL: 
First-generation immigrant girls navigating language, culture, school, belonging, identity, and self-doubt.
 

• THE FAMILY:
 Young women who often become bridges for their families while finding their own place between two cultures.
 

• THE COMMUNITY: 
Future mentors, professionals, and leaders who can contribute to and strengthen their communities.
 

Our pilot reached more than 25 girls from Afghanistan across two high schools in Concord and received strong positive feedback from the girls and school staff. We do not want to stop here.
