IWIN’s Global Artivism Project to End Violence Against Women

We are excited to introduce IWIN’s 2026 project for the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence early, giving communities plenty of time to gather, create, and prepare.

Last year, together, we turned 25 Red Shoes into a global community action. More than 1,000 red shoes came out of people’s closets, with installations appearing in 40+ cities across four continents.

What made the campaign powerful was not only what we displayed, but what happened around it: people gathered, talked, created, and brought an often-hidden issue into public spaces.

This year, we want to make that circle even wider—connecting home to home, community to community, and city to city through orange crochet.
 

🧶 October — Gather & Start Creating

Start in October! Gather your friends, family, coworkers, school, or community and host an orange crochet circle. Create orange circles, flowers, and other pieces together while opening conversations about awareness and solidarity in ending violence against women.

In the U.S., October is also Domestic Violence Awareness Month, offering an important opportunity to begin these conversations.
 

🧶 November 25–December 10 — Take It to Your City

November 25 marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, which continues through December 10, Human Rights Day.

Bring your orange creations into your community—display them on trees, fences, homes, workplaces, libraries, schools, parks, and other public spaces.

In the U.S.: You may begin your display before or immediately after the Thanksgiving holiday and keep it up through December 10.

Each orange creation becomes a symbol of awareness, courage, resistance, and solidarity—and an invitation to continue the conversation about ending violence against women.
 

Why This Matters

Every 10 minutes, a woman or girl is killed by an intimate partner or family member.

Through this shared creative action, we hope to transform everyday spaces into reminders that ending violence against women requires awareness, community participation, and sustained commitment.
 

🧶 Bring Orange the World to Your Community

We warmly invite cities, organizations, schools, libraries, businesses, artists, and community groups to participate.

Participation can be as simple or ambitious as your community chooses: host a gathering, create together, provide a public display space, share the campaign, or create an installation of your own.

Every contribution adds another voice to this global call.
